Doctoral studies begin.

Greetings from Biyun Road, Shanghai.

I recently found this message in my inbox. It began:

     Hi Wayne,

Congratulations! You’ve been accepted into CalSouthern!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I am beginning my Doctor of Business Administration (D.B.A.). This program is a "MBA on steroids."

Why a business degree? Aren't you an educator?

For the past 18 years I have worked in five privately run schools. Through wonderfully diverse experiences in these five schools, I have come to the strong belief that a school's mission is only sustained if her leaders are business-savvy educational leaders. Business-savvy with matters like:
- Consumer behavior and analysis
- Financial management and analysis
- Maintaining supply chains/marketing

I had plans to begin my Ed.D. three years ago, but God had other plans for our family. We now see God's hand on our current path. If I did begin my Ed.D., much of the content would be similar to my M.Ed. course work. For example, I did "School Law" in my master's. I would do "Advanced School Law" in an Ed.D.

I believe a D.B.A. will strengthen my leadership in a private school setting. Whether a private school back in the U.S., a private school in South Africa, or an international school in China.

Misty and I look forward to our family's journey ahead. I am blessed to have a wife whose steadfast support over the past 10 years is more than remarkable. And I am excited for our two precious children who get to watch Daddy 'go back to school.' "Learning and growing never ends, little ones."

God's richest blessings,

Wayne and Misty
